    Thank you for joining the Breast Cancer Society of Canada's annual Mother's Day Walk volunteer team. Get ready to make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of those affected by breast cancer knowing that even just a few hours of your time will make a difference!

    A high energy event like this requires many volunteers to fill a variety of roles aimed at keeping participants feeling welcomed and energized throughout the entire day. Shifts are generally 5 to 6 hours in length and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. So don't miss out....choose your preferred role today!

    Many of the shifts are completed before the walk begins making it possible to volunteer and raise funds/participate in the walk. Just let us know so that we can schedule accordingly.

    Opportunity Roles

    Set Up: Tents, tables, signage

    You are the first ones on the scene! We need your muscles to help set up the tents that will give us shelter from the elements. Help with offloading equipment, tables and chairs. Post signs, arrange decorations and handle other details required to make it a day to remember! Required: strong backs, ability to lift and carry items of a moderate weight (up to 10-15 lbs) and capacity to remain cool and calm in a chaotic environment.

    Balloon Patrol

    You will be responsible for inflating balloons used for signage, decorations and handing out any extras to children. Friendly volunteers, who are welcoming and outgoing, are needed for this role. Ability to stand for long periods of time will also be required.

    Refreshment Station

    Participants will be walking or running 5k it will be important for them to stay hydrated. The volunteers stationed in the food area will be in charge of replenishing water and food supplies for the thirsty participants. Ability to stand for long periods of time will also be required.

    Survivor Central

    Although not necessary, volunteers who are themselves breast cancer survivors are a great fit for this activity. This is a special area that is dedicated to participants who are survivors! They can sign a banner and receive their own special swag and other surprises.

    Movers and Shakers

    Outgoing cheerleader types are needed for this role! Located throughout the route and at the start/finish line, this team keeps participants engaged and energized with cheers, songs, instruments or wild and crazy costumes! No matter what your moves are, the will be a sure fire way to pump up the crowd! Join us for fun filled “craft” sessions to create your own custom noise maker, motivational poster or costume accessory for event day!

    Face Painting

    Do you have an artistic flare? Volunteer for this role if you are interested in making a child or grown up's day! Basic drawing skills are required. Volunteers must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy large crowds.

    Tattoos

    Want to add some fun to the participants day? The tattoo station is always super popular so you will be in high demand! Volunteers must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy large crowds.

    Photo Booth

    The photo booth team captures memories of this fantastic day for participants. Volunteer photographers will encourage teams or individuals to strike a pose using our fun and crazy props. Friendly and outgoing volunteers are needed for this role. Ability to stand for long periods of time is required.

    Greeters

    Greeters will be posted at key locations to welcome, direct and engage participants. They will also hand out promotional Breast Cancer Society material or event information. Friendly volunteers, who are welcoming and outgoing, are needed for this role. Ability to stand for long periods of time will also be required.

    Parking Attendants

    Parking attendants will direct participants to the closest available space or send them to an alternate lot when needed. They will also direct participants to registration once they have parked. Ability to stand for long periods of time will also be required.

    Directional Guard

    Volunteers stand guard at points along route to enforce stop signs and traffic lights and to reinforce important turns along the route. Ability to stand for long periods of time will is required.

    Swag and Vendor Tables

    Be the giver of cool swag or the seller of awesome Mother's Day Walk mementos. Enjoy engaging with the crowd before and after the walk. Friendly, welcoming and outgoing volunteers are needed for this role. Seating for this position can be made available.

    Tear Down and Clean UP

    As vital as the set-up, getting the event venue back to normal is just as important. After memories have been created, a group of volunteers are needed to dissemble the various tents, booths and other services of the day. Required: strong backs, ability to lift and carry items of a moderate weight (up to 10-15 lbs) and capacity to remain cool and calm in a chaotic environment.
