    StepStones for Youth has an innovative and dynamic, all girls overnight summer camp that provides high-level skill development support to girls struggling with self-esteem, behaviour management and/or girls who are economically disadvantaged or have a history of trauma and abuse.

    Opportunity Roles

    Camp Counsellor

    Become a camp counsellor! Cabin Counsellors are responsible for the supervision of campers assigned to their unit. A cabin counsellor will work to enhance the campers’ experience at StepStones, while taking responsibility for their health and well-being. Responsibilities: Participating in staff orientation and training; aiding program staff during activities; being an active part of all camp activities (i.e. campfires, songs, talent shows, hikes, free time activities, etc.); knowing the location of their camper group 24 hours a day; promoting a positive healthy environment for the campers at StepStones; developing and practicing personal leadership skills. Qualifications: Interested in working with children in a group living situation; able to communicate effectively with campers and staff.

    Lifeguard

    The waterfront is an essential part of camp life and it is necessary that waterfront staff are highly qualified and confident in their ability to supervise instruction periods, free swim, and canoeing/kayaking sessions. Many lifeguards are also camp counsellors. Responsibilities: Participating in staff orientation and training; direct supervision of campers and staff at the waterfront; providing aquatic instruction to campers; planning waterfront activities and games; participating in camp-wide activities where appropriate. Qualifications: Ability to work with emergency situations and rescues; NLS qualifications (current) and standard first aid (current).
